Privacy Policy — Chrome Extension

Hours Tracker: Work Log & Pay (Chrome extension). Last updated: October 22, 2026

In short

  • We collect no data. The extension has no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting.
  • Everything stays in your browser. Your shifts, rates and notes are saved in Chrome's local extension storage on your own computer.
  • No network requests. The extension never sends anything to us or to any third party. It works fully offline.
  • No purchases. The extension is free and has no in-app purchases or subscriptions.

1. Scope of this policy

This policy applies only to the Chrome extension published under the name Hours Tracker: Work Log & Pay. Our iOS and Android apps, and the shiftworklog.com website, are covered by a separate Privacy Policy. The mobile apps may display advertising and offer optional purchases; the extension does neither.

2. Information the extension stores

The extension saves the following in Chrome local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) so your timesheet is still there when you reopen the browser:

  • Shift entries you create — start and end times, break times, notes, and the pay rate that was in effect when you saved the shift.
  • Your pay settings — hourly rate, overtime multiplier, tax rate, pay-period length, first day of the week, and 12/24-hour time format.
  • Calculator inputs — the last values you typed into the overtime calculator, so the form is not empty next time.

This data is created by you, belongs to you, and never leaves your device. You can delete all of it at any time from Settings → Reset everything inside the extension, or by removing the extension from Chrome, which deletes its storage.

3. Information we do not collect

The extension does not collect, transmit or sell any of the following:

  • Personally identifiable information — there is no account, login or email field;
  • Location data — the extension never requests location permission;
  • Web browsing history, tabs, or the content of any page you visit;
  • Usage analytics, telemetry, click tracking or crash reports;
  • Financial or payment information — pay rates you type are settings, not payment data;
  • Health, personal communications, or any other category of user data.

The extension requests only the storage permission (to save your own timesheet) and the sidePanel permission (to let you dock the app beside your work). It has no host permissions, no content scripts, and never reads or modifies web pages.

4. No remote code

All code is included in the extension package and runs locally. The extension does not load or execute scripts from the internet, does not use eval, and does not fetch remote resources at runtime.

5. Third parties and data sharing

There are no third-party SDKs, no advertising networks and no analytics providers embedded in the extension. Because nothing is collected, nothing is shared, sold or transferred to anyone.

6. Links to our website

The extension contains ordinary links to shiftworklog.com (for example, “also on iOS & Android”). These open a new tab only when you click them. Until you do, the extension never contacts that site or any other. Once you are on our website, the website privacy policy applies — note that the website uses Google Analytics, which the extension does not.

7. Your choices and rights

  • View or edit any shift at any time inside the extension.
  • Export a JSON copy of all your data from Settings → Export.
  • Delete everything with Settings → Reset everything, or by uninstalling the extension.
  • Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or erase on our side under laws such as GDPR or CCPA. Your data is already entirely under your control on your own device.

8. Data security

Your data is protected by Chrome's extension storage isolation and by your own computer's user account security. The extension does not transmit data over any network, so there is no data in transit to intercept. Because storage is local, clearing your Chrome profile or uninstalling the extension will also remove your timesheet — use the Export feature if you want a backup.

9. Children

The extension is a workplace productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

10. Changes to this policy

If a future version of the extension adds a feature that handles data differently — for example sync or analytics — this policy will be updated before that version is published, and the “last updated” date above will change.
